You Are Priceless
An ancient writer once spoke of giving slaves unbelievable amounts of money to invest. The question at the very beginning is, why would a master give a great sum of money to his slave? Well, the person is probably a slave because he has lost money that this man had previously loaned him. And because he lived in a time when there were no bankruptcy laws, the only way to repay the loan was to become the man’s slave.
This is such an intriguing story. Intriguing because although the man lost everything and has now enslaved himself, the master still knows his worth, even if he does not. The master loaned him the money because he was capable and qualified to handle it.
The first lesson to be learned is that a person’s value is not attached to their failures. Winners in life never merely lose they gain. Winners gain because even when they fail they still learn. This is what the master recognized in this slave. The slave lost the money but learned the lesson; thus the master entrusted him with great money again. Never let your failures define you.
The second lesson to be learned is that life and God will give you a second chance. This second chance can come in the strangest of places and the most mysterious of ways. Notice that a slave was given a great sum of money. The second chance came while he was a slave. Your second chance can come right in your place of bondage. Your blessing can come right where you are. Your opportunity may knock not only on your penthouse door, but also on your pigpen gate. So never be so enveloped in your failure or your past that you negate to put in to operation your gifts, talents, and abilities.
The third lesson I want you to have from this story, is that there is someone who will see you for who you really are. There is someone who will not only look beyond your faults and see your needs, but will also look beyond your faults, and see your value. There is someone who will not be blinded by the blight of your past but rather encouraged by the depth of your learning. Some of the most valuable people in the world can be found in the prisons, unemployment lines, and sitting on park benches. All because we fail to recognize and discern imperfect greatness and broken pieces of angel wings. Your failures, your disasters, and your rock bottom experiences, have made you priceless. Wisdom and understanding have always been worth more than any amount of gold and silver.
