Mercy, Mercy, Me
Yesterday ended last night. Anything that you did not do yesterday and was supposed to do or wanted to do is lost. All that you did that you were not supposed to do is done. Yesterday’s funeral ended last night. The birth of a brand new day is upon us. New mercies are being given to us even now. New mercies should excite you and thrill you and energize you. New mercies every morning are probably my favorite supplements.
I’ll tell you why. These new mercies are said to be things that we don’t get although we so deserve them. I will be the first to tell you that we are the sum of the choices that we have made in life. And yes I will tell you that we can make choices but we cannot choose the consequences of those choices. This is why I am so excited to share this life giving, heart pumping, and energy raising supplement of mercy with you today. New mercies tell me that I will not get all the consequences of the choices that I have made. New mercies tell me that every seed that I have planted will not come up. New mercies will cancel out some of the bad checks that I wrote with my words, deeds and thoughts.
This is such good news. Today’s new mercies will not cancel out every consequence of our choices, but there is no way we could make it in life if for each and every one of my actions there was an equal negative reaction. I am so thankful that new mercy was created as a part of every new morning. As the sunlight begins to spread across the earth carrying heat and illumination, go ahead and include new mercies as well. It’s as if God included an accident forgiveness plan into the very making of creation itself.
My little girl would often get in trouble in school almost everyday for one thing or another, but mostly for talking. It seemed like everyday a note was being sent home. It seemed like everyday was dreaded after school because of her behavior and these notes. One Monday she got into the car and we both knew it was about to be a long drive home. This particular Monday however I named “Mercy Monday”. No discipline today. No punishment today. No lecture today. Today we are going to Walgreens and get you a happy. How quickly her sorrow turned to joy all because of mercy. Now I enjoy mercy everyday of my life. I may not get all that I desire in life, but thank God I don’t always get what I deserve.
