Just One Ounce

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” So it’s better to not get sick, than to be healed. It’s better to stop for air than to use the spare (tire, that is). It’s better to read the instructions than it is to void the warranty. It’s better to remain silent than it is to write an un-cashable check with your mouth. It would seem that any amount of prevention would be more than any amount of cure.

Instead of only always looking back to see what went wrong, let’s spend some time looking forward to see what can go wrong. And then, instead of being filled with fear, let’s attack each of the possibilities so that we can greater ensure our desired outcome. Now that was priceless. Yes, instead of just sitting there like a bump on a log knowing that the weather can ruin everything for you today, borrow some umbrellas or purchase some trash bags, but do something in advance to help your own situation. If you are about to have a meeting or gathering of some type, talk to the “party pooper” ahead of time so that surprises can be minimized.

If you already know that something can happen in your day or life, which you consider to unfavorable, but you fail to even try and do anything about it, then shame on you. You are not to be pitied. You are not being caught off guard. You are simply being negligent. You were expecting rain this whole time. It rains. You get wet. End of story. No whining. No complaining. No blaming.

Again. Look ahead. Try to predict all of the pitfalls. Play the Devil’s advocate. Be hard on yourself looking ahead. Be honest about what can happen. Predict your own failures and then do your best to prevent it. And when you have done all you can do then that’s all you can do. But, whatever you do, please don’t just sit there and wait on trouble or disaster to come. Quit procrastinating and do everything possible to create your desired outcome. Uncross your fingers and leave nothing to chance.
