Home Is Hell
If the little birdie can make it through its storm, then so can you. Maybe, like the bird, you are no match for the sleet, ice, cold and wind. And again, such is life. Circumstances and situations are more than we can handle. We are no contest for the violent squalls that come our way. We live and find ourselves caught in the midst of something not the fault of our own. This storm was so bad that this little birdie couldn’t go to its home.
Have you ever been there? Things are so bad that even your home is not safe for you. Home should be the place of safety and security. Home is where we should find a shield from the enemies of life. Sometimes your home can be your hell. Sometimes you would rather be alone on a slippery edge than to be at home. How sad and yet how true, when you would rather be out in the cold than under your roof. How sad and yet how true that there are times when you would rather endure the kiss of an enemy than the hug from family!
We pray because the Power above us is greater than all the powers without us. We pray because our God can speak to a restless storm and command it to hush and to be still. Or He can give us peace on the inside that conquers rage on the outside. You need this when you can’t seem to find rest or refuge anywhere. No rest on your job. No rest in your home. But through prayer, when you can’t find rest, rest will find you.
There are countless people who have purchased expensive Sleep Number mattresses that have been unable to dial the proper comfort number for their tired body, wearied soul and tormented mind. There is a restlessness that shows no regard for your address, last name, education or good intentions. There is restorative sleep that will elude you even in the midst of creaturely comforts. But through prayer, there is also a soul rest that while surrounded by chaos and calamity, will lay down undisturbed in perfect stillness. With God through prayer, your hell can be conquered.
