Open Your Eyes

Picture this: He’s laying flat on his back with his eyes closed. Everything is hurting, even his eyebrows. He can’t figure out how he ended up where he now is. He’s conscious, but horizontal. It wasn’t naptime and neither was he tired. So why am I laying on this mat, under bright lights and surrounded by what sounds like hundreds, if not, thousands of spectators? It’s coming back to me, I got knocked down.

This is life. You can be standing on your feet in one moment and then be found laying flat on your back the next. For many of us life is not all I do is win, win, win. You will lose. You will fail. You will have more losses than successes. You will get knocked down. You will not merely stumble and fall, no ma’am, no sir. Life will knock you down. And like Iron Mike Tyson once said, “Everybody has a plan, until they get hit.”

Wow! Everyone has a plan until they get hit, that is, until they get knocked down. And everyone gets knocked down in one way or another. So it behooves each of us to have a plan for these unwanted but guaranteed outcomes and turn of events in our lives. Hmmmmm. A plan, not merely for success, but a plan for failure, go figure. What’s the plan for all the losers? Countless books and blogs are available for winning. Well, for all who have been knocked down, here’s a backup plan to get you back up.

Our first step to getting back up is to open our eyes. I know that everything is hurting, but I really need you to open your eyes. After being knocked down, the very first two gifts that you will receive is the opening up of both your eyes. Don’t discount this gift. The fact that you can open your eyes will be the portal, the gateway, catalysts for everything else that’s about to come your way. Opening your eyes “suggests” that no matter how hard you got hit, you are still alive. And being alive is the prerequisite for so many wonderful things.

Once when playing street football, the ball bounced and hit one of my friends in the eye. Oh, how he cried and screamed that he could not see! We all ran and gathered around him trying to comfort him. I then shared with him some information that immediately transformed his situation from an emergency to a celebration. If you listen closely

to what I told him, I believe that it can help you too just as quickly and effectively as it did him. I told him that if he would open his eyes he would be able to see. Ok ok. I slip that one by you. I repeat. I told him that if he would open his eyes, he would be able to see. And guess what? He opened his eyes and was able to see. So, once again, please open your eyes.

Now, number next. If I can get you to open your eyes, then it will be possible for you to look up. Normally, you could try to sell me an excuse for not being able to look up because of all that you have been through. But since you are flat on your back, opening your eyes and looking up are almost one and the same step. Open your eyes and look up. Look up. Look up. There is so much power in where you are looking. One man said that he would lift up his eyes unto the hills from where he got all his help. When knocked down by life, where you look becomes critical. You can be down for so long that you forget what it’s like to be up. But what and who you look at and focus on can help bring back your memory or birth a new beginning and dream. Knocked down folk look around. They look within. They look under. I need you to look up, my friend. Look up so that you can look beyond where you are now. Look up, away from resources to the Source. Look up!

It has been said, and rightly so, that if I can get you to look up, then I can get you to get up. Open up, look up then get up. If I can get you to see other than where you are, just maybe I can help you to leave there as well. The enemy wants you to stay on your back. But I know that if I can just get you back on your feet, just back standing again, you will remember how to walk, then run, then fly. Open your eyes.
